SB 279 CHARITABLE GAMING SALMON AND RACE CLASSIC SENATOR JOHN TORGERSON, sponsor of the measure, explained SB 279 authorizes the Seward Chamber of Commerce and the Sterling area senior citizens to sell tickets statewide for particular activities for fundraising purposes. The Seward Chamber of Commerce hosts a race up Mount Marathon, and holds a contest to guess the weight of the prize fish caught in its salmon derby. The Sterling Senior Citizens would like to hold a contest to guess the number of salmon going up the Kenai River. There were no questions for the sponsor. SENATOR TAYLOR asked Senator Torgerson what he thought the odds were of the bill moving from committee. SENATOR TORGERSON replied he would need to get his ticket book. SENATOR GREEN moved SB 279 out of committee with individual recommendations. There being no objection, the motion carried.
